It was also followed by an inspirational message about suffering and the rewards that await if you persist and don’t give up.
And it fit the whole context perfectly: his goal was born out of determination rather than skill; brawn rather than brains.
As the ball fell loose, the silky Spaniard was the quickest man to react and he got more than his just reward for giving everything to the cause.
