Many Everton fans have been reacting on Twitter after The Liverpool Echo reported that young defender Lewis Gibson is set to sign a new contract, before potentially leaving the club on loan before Friday’s transfer deadline.
Despite never making a senior appearance for the Merseyside outfit, it appears as though the Toffees faced something of a battle to keep the 19-year-old at Goodison Park, with The Daily Mail reporting back in October that Newcastle United were keen to re-sign him.
The Liverpool Echo says that director of football Marcel Brands has played a key role in convincing the teenager to commit his future to the Toffees, issuing a detailed plan of Gibson’s future pathway at Everton.

The report says that there is interest in him from clubs in the Championship, League One and in Europe, and now he must decide where he wants to go on a temporary basis until the end of the campaign.
Plenty of Everton fans appear delighted that he looks set to commit his future to them though.
One fan decided to focus on Brands’ involvement in convincing Gibson to stay on, and suggested it was great to see that younger players are being given signals that they can be a part of the first-team in the future.
Another suggested that the 19-year-old could be a long-term replacement for Michael Keane, who has often come under criticism from the Goodison Park faithful for his performances, if he impresses on loan.
Did he really play for us?! No Everton fan has managed to name all of these obscure Toffees players….
That certainly isn’t out of the question, and the fact he is left-footed and the other three senior options Ancelotti has right now aren’t should certainly stand him in good stead.
Another supporter focused on his left foot, and is hoping the club find the right side for him to play on loan with, preparing him for the Everton first team in the future.
A spell similar to that of fellow Toffee Jonjoe Kenny, who is currently shining on loan for Bundesliga side Schalke, would be the ideal scenario.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are tracking a £49.5m-rated Ligue 1 ace, with Marcel Brands known to be an admirer…
