Liverpool battled to a vital 2-1 win against Burnley on Sunday, making sure that they gained ground on their fellow top four contenders on a weekend most were pre-occupied with the FA Cup.Despite being far from their best, the Reds managed to find two goals from midfield thanks to Georginio Wijnaldum and Emre Can. That double came after Burnley had taken a shock lead thanks to Ashley Barnes.Jurgen Klopp’s side have now surged five points ahead of Arsenal in fifth, although the Gunners do have two games in hand on them.On a day they weren’t at their best though, the win was huge and credit has to be given to the team for finding a way to victory. Perhaps it’s a sign that Klopp’s team are gaining a steely determination to win at all costs even when not on top form.As this stat from OptaÂshows, Liverpool are very much on the right track under the German manager, already matching last season’s number of wins total.
With ten games left to play in the Premier League season, it seems likely that the Reds will go well beyond that total and show serious improvement from last season’s points total.
Can they pick up enough wins to finish in the top four?
