An investigation into supposed monetary mismanagement at the Etihad Stadium was opened in 2018, with that process finally completed in February 2023. An independent hearing into the allegations against City was concluded in December 2024.

City are still waiting on a verdict, with Pep Guardiola having said: “In one month, I think there will be a verdict and a sentence. After that, we will see my opinion of what happened so far.”
Various punishments continue to be speculated on.
